Hot Spring Looks for Less!
Spring has spring all over the country! A warm March and a burst of brightly colored spring fashions are the perfect incentives for shoppers looking to update their wardrobes.
This season’s trends, ranging from colorful boat shoes to super skinny jeans, are already obvious, and that makes it easier to get good deals. When everyone is selling the same looks, there’s more competition. That can lower prices. Shoparatti has your deal dose of amazing looks for even better prices.
Chasing trends can easily get expensive. Fight that by investing in styles that you will still find appealing even when they’re no longer trendy.
Here are four trends for the spring 2012 season and how to sport them without breaking the bank:
• Boat shoes: Boat shoes — the brown leather shoes with rubber soles that had their fashion heyday in the 1980s — have made a big comeback this spring. But they’ve gotten a major makeover.
Retailers are stocking a rainbow of versions in brightly colored hues like neon yellow and hot pink, funky print designs and different materials — at varying prices.
If you’re on a tight budget, Payless Shoe Source offers a version from Dexter for $24.99. If you want to splurge, Gucci has them for $530.
If you want lots to pick from, it’s hard to beat online shoe retailer Zappos, which lists more than 700 types of boat shoes for men, women, and children — 70 brands in 25 colors and 15 materials, from rubber to mesh.
Purists can turn to the creator — Sperry, which introduced the shoe in 1935. Its site sperrytopsider.com lists prices from about $60 to $300, and shoppers will find varied styles and colors. The $300 version is for the “authentic original,” which is handcrafted and made in Maine.
If you don’t mind something pre-worn, you can try second-hand stores or vintage shops.
And for the ultimate in savings, try looking in your attic or the back of your closet to see if you have kept those shoes from your college days; with just a little polish, the shoes could get a second life.
• Super skinny jeans: A wide variety of retailers are pushing super skinny pants as tight as leggings. At the lower end, H&M and Target have them for about $25 or less.
And good news if you’re carrying a few extra winter pounds: This season, the look is being paired with oversized tops that camouflage any bulges, rather than the skin-tight tops of seasons past.
• Brightly colored prints: paisley, tie-die and “super flower.”
With prints, remember that you don’t have to buy the whole outfit to be trendy — they can grab a scarf or a belt, or just a T-shirt, says Furman. A little color can go a long way.
And a scarf doesn’t just have to be a scarf. Retailers are also marketing them as headdresses and even as tops.
You can also mix and match without looking out of fashion, says David Wolfe, creative director at The Doneger Group.
“This season, you can go crazy with color,” he says.
• Cuff bracelets: These chunky, wide bracelets can be found in all shapes, sizes and materials, from plastic to silver.
If you want unusual styles, try fab.com, which focuses on daily flash sales of unique designs including accessories that can be as low as $25,
You can also check out Forever 21 and Payless at the mall, where you can get cuff bracelets for under $10. But don’t limit yourself to low-price stores; the bracelets can be affordable even at high-end stores.
“This is a very democratic season,”
So go shopping and enjoy!!!

Shoparatti welcomes Zanna Roberts Rassi to Style Council!
Zanna Roberts Rassi is the Senior Fashion Editor at Marie Claire magazine and loves a deal!
Q: How did you hear about Shoparatti?
A: Through the fashion grapevine. We fashion peeps love to chat about things that can potentially make sartorial life easy!
Q: Do you shop the daily deal sites? If so what are some of your favorites?
A: I’m a big fan of Moda Operandi (allowing you to order clothing directly off the runway before the merchandise hits the store). It’s the reverse mentality of something like Guilt but I feel it will become as relevant.
Q: Everyone loves a great deal, what’s the best deal you’ve ever found?
A: A great deal to me is not only good value for money but something that didn’t take me an eternity to find. (Time is money, baby!) If someone can do the editing for you and point you in the right direction then its a good deal. Thanks Shoparatti
Q: What style tips do you have for our Shoparatti audience? What’s the trend this winter?
A: This fall buy something with a 60′s edge, a polka dot print and a cozy parka to snuggle up in. All these were big trends on the runways which have trickled down. Buy these pieces in silhouettes and colors that suit though, never go too far out of your comfort zone. Never buy into a trend, just because its a trend. And only ever buy something you absolutely LOVE. Another tip to make shopping and dressing easy, is to pick your personal style and stick with it. Are you ladylike, rock and roll, retro etc in style. Once you know this you can find style icons, brands and pieces that will suit you and cut down on the excess.
Q: What’s the number one way to save money on an outfit?
A: Buy something that you love and adore and that fits properly. I swear you’ll get more millage out of it , in turn saving you money. Buy separates that you can mix and match. Before you buy, think of 3 other things in your closet that will go with it. If you cant imagine this…walk away!

Shoparatti Welcomes Joan Rivers for the Holidays!
Here’s an excerpt from Joan’s Style council pics. www.shoparatti.com/sc
Things I love to give people at Christmas by Joan Rivers
Scent candles. There are several really outstanding ones on the market, and at different price points.
From LafCo in New York, the lavender scent candle is wonderful and according to the NY Times, lavender is the scent that arouses men most.
The God’s Love We Deliver Christmas candle is one of the most beautiful scents I’ve ever smelled. They only make it at Christmas and in very limited amounts. It’s a bit pricey, but all profits go to the charity so it’s a win-win.
Surprise! The Santa Monica Huntley Hotel’s scent candle! It’s $40 and it just smells absolutely divine.
I love to keep gifts that can be used again. I think the Joan Rivers Russian Faberge inspired all-glass Christmas ornaments, which come in a round hat box, are so beautiful and worth the money. Maybe I’m partial because it’s my company, but we work like crazy to make these beautiful limited edition ornaments that are instant heirlooms. They can be purchased through QVC.
For people who have pets, the one thing I’ve found that every dog loves are freeze-dried liver training treats by Gimborn. I have yet to see a pet not go absolutely crazy for these.
Find a local art school and commission the portrait of a friend’s pet. Since the middle ages, people have been gaga over pet portraits. And I haven’t given one to someone who hasn’t been thrilled. Make it small so it can fit on a bookshelf or on a night table, and make sure you frame it.
Another gift that keeps giving is a subscription to the magazine The Week. I don’t know how they do it but The Week gives you everything that’s happened in this country and internationally in business, politics, art, real estate, books, religion, and gossip. No article is more than a page long and it explains the most complicated of situations in easy terms. A special feature is their double-page spread every week on houses that are for sale in the United States. Fabulous!
Another gift I love to give friends is a haircut and color appointment at a local beauty salon.
If you’re looking for cozy and wonderful
comfy sleep socks. These can be purchased in all price ranges. You can go to Ralph Lauren and get the most expensive, gorgeous cashmere socks, or pick up the washable ones at $10 per pair at any airport store. I don’t know how they do it or who’s making them but they’re cozy, one-size-fits-all, brightly colored and on a cold December night, you’ll feel adored.
Flowers that grow. Most local flower shops can send someone bulbs that they’ll leave in their kitchen, and for the next month the smell from paper whites or daffodils they’ve grown will remind them yet again of your gift.
A great umbrella. Tell me one person who doesn’t need an umbrella, but get a good one. They’re making blow-out resistant ones now. A good sturdy umbrella
you’ll long be remembered and revered for that one.
A glamorous sequined stole. Any woman will find instant glamour if you give her a beautiful stole that she can drape over her arms and around her neck. Joan Rivers has been doing a massive business with these every Christmas. They’re inexpensive and they add instant dress-up glamour and are timeless.
In this day of stay-at-home-and-watch-a-movie-on-your-tiny-little-computer lives, I like to give friends gifts that will get them out of the house. A gift certificate to the local movie theater is a wonderful idea. Two tickets to a Broadway show, or by a touring company, or a rock concert
get ‘em up, get ‘em out, get ‘em having fun.
Everyone carries their own tote. One of the best canvas totes that you can have initialed and comes in different sizes is from J Crew. It’s as Waspy as can be, and sturdy and washable.
If you can’t support your local sheriff, how about supporting your local book store—a dying institution, which once it’s gone will be mourned forever. A beautiful art coffee table book is always loved and appreciated. There are coffee table books out on every damned subject you can think of. They can be majorly pricey, but not only are they beautiful to look at, they give your living room great snob appeal.

Joan Rivers Curating Shoparatti Gift Guide
GIFTS FROM JOAN:
Joan Rivers has given her daughter Melissa some great gifting tips over the years. “She’s an incredible gift giver,” said Melissa, recounting one tip: if there’s an occasion a friend is getting loads of flowers, give her “a credit so that after everyone has already sent theirs, they can get another one.” Soon, the public will get to judge Rivers’ gifting advice. The comedienne and host of E! Entertainment Television’s “Fashion Police” is putting together a gift guide that will be on Shoparatti, an online curator of daily deals, from Black Friday to Jan. 2. Tickets to a Broadway show, Ralph Lauren cashmere socks and items from Rivers’ QVC collection will be included in the guide, which will feature deep discounts off retail prices. Since launching in March, Santa Monica, Calif.-based Shoparatti has attracted up to 40,000 people daily to visit its Web site and garnered 33,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook. It presents an edited assortment of deals from the likes of Rue La La, HauteLook, Ideeli and Groupon for shoppers who don’t want to comb through the flood of emails they get from flash sale and daily deal services. “I see it as eventually like a ‘Good Housekeeping’ seal of approval, where being Shoparatti approved will mean something,” explained Melissa Rivers, who is Shoparatti’s editor-in-chief.

Best Supporting goes to? Spanx!
We’ll admit it we wear’em and we love Spanx. It’s amazing to see how much better a body (even a mom one looks!) in them.
Spanx, the company famous for its undergarments and shapewear, has just released a new line of activewear. This isn’t the first time Spanx has branched out: In 2002, they released Mama Spanx, designed to help pregnant women boost their bellies. Now, Spanx Active promises to help women look slim at the gym.
Sadly, none of the clothes offer much protection from sweat lol!
Spanx Founder Sara Blakely says of the collection: “Our goal with SPANX Active was to create the perfect black pant that would conceal any tummy pooch and make your butt look amazing. Each piece in the collection is designed to make women look and feel great in a cinch without having to work for it.”
So if you already look good at the GYM maybe you’ll feel better about getting your work out on!
Looking for some daily deals to get your shop on? We’re featuring spanx all week on
Love you guys!

Emmy Style!
Well we were so surprised about the stunning style at the emmys this year. Red was the look not only of the carpet but also on the gorgeous nominees. Red was the “it” color of the night with several celebs rocking the bold hue. Among the best: Lea Michele (in Marchesa), Kate Winslet (in Elie Saab) and Nina Dobrev (in Donna Karan).
For every star in a stunning gown at Sunday’s Emmy Awards (Nina Dobrev!), there was one who missed the mark. From over-the-top designs to strange adornments, these dresses turned heads for the wrong reasons. Heidi Klum might be a judge on Project Runway, but that didn’t make her immune to a fashion fail. The supermodel wore a grayish-beige dress by show alum Christian Siriano. The strapless look featured a major ruffled asymmetrical hem. “I’m very proud to support Christian, who won our fourth season,” she said. “I know he will be designing for a long time!”
Well we’re sleepy from staying up so late but we found some stunning emmy looks for less! Checking the best daily deals every day!
Till next time,
-Mel
